Fathom Systems have joined 6 other advanced technology products companies from Scotland in a Subsea Trade Mission to Japan this week.  Organised by Scottish Development International, the 5 day visit includes a number of fast track visits and presentations to key Subsea Engineering and Offshore development companies in the Tokyo area, including a prestigious networking event held at the British Embassy with more than 80 Japanese delegates present from their established Subsea Platform.  Led by Dr. Gordon Drummond of Aberdeen based NSRI – National Subsea Research Initiative, a technical arm championed by Subsea UK, the long term purpose of establishing this working relationship between Japan and Scotland is to provide foundation for sharing our technology and expertise in offshore exploration, operations, and production.  It is anticipated that offshore development will grow significantly in Japanese waters in the coming 5 to 10 years as plans to mine and extract alternative fuels such as methane hydrates are established.  Currently Japan depends heavily on imported fuel and accounts for around 37% of the world's share of exported LNG.
